New lighting solutions are the key to reducing building energy use. In today’s society the tag “Energy Star” is seen and heard in a variety of media forms. It is the buzz word of our decade. At Optimum Lighting, we consider ourselves innovators. Our experience in the field sets us apart. We are proud to be an Energy Star Partner providing Energy Star approved products. From our friends at the Department of Energy: (http://www.eia.doe.gov)Did you know that energy consumption for all lighting in the United States is estimated to be 8.2 quads, or about 22% of the total electricity generated in the country. More than half of the energy is consumed in the commercial sector, where lighting coincides with peak electrical demand and contributes to a building’s internal heat generation, increasing air-conditioning load. Advanced lighting technologies can significantly improve the energy efficiency of lighting and reduce building energy consumption and costs. The commercial building market encompasses a diverse mix of structures and purposes - from small retail establishments to corporate office parks, from neighborhood schools to regional hospitals, and from multi-family apartment buildings to universities. Despite their differences, commercial buildings share a large and growing appetite for energy. They account for 18 percent of total U.S. energy consumption. In a typical office building, energy use accounts for 30 percent of operating costs, the largest single category of controllable costs. The design and construction of energy-smart buildings offers tangible benefits to building owners and occupants and our nation as a whole.
